Michelle Wendt started this petition to Dalton Sweat, General Manager of Dripping Springs Century News

The Dripping Springs Century News runs an annual contest for Best of Dripping Springs to "celebrate and recognize the best Dripping Springs has to offer." In 2020, the contest was moved to an online platform requiring voters to enter an email address. At the end of the voting period, votes were tallied and verified by the newspaper staff resulting in awardees. The award is a valuable marketing tool to business owners in Dripping Springs.

The purpose of this petition is to demand transparency and accountability for the online voting process. The General Manager of Dripping Springs Century News refuses to disclose any information about the voting process including the total number of votes tallied for each nominated business. Business owners in Dripping Springs deserve access to this simple metric to determine the impact of their marketing efforts. With ad sales starting at $400 in the nomination round and $289 in the finalist round, we demand to know if our marketing investments in the annual contest are being thwarted by online voting bots or by incorrect vote tallies.

Dripping Springs Century News is a trusted provider of information in our community and as local business owners, we demand full transparency and accountability in the annual Best of Dripping Springs contest.
