On September 6, 2018, off-duty Dallas patrol officer Amber Guyger entered the apartment of Botham Jean and shot and killed him. Guyger has been convicted of murdering Botham Jean and sentenced to 10 years in prison. But our attention focuses on another local player in this tragedy - Mike Mata. Mata violated the general orders of the Dallas Police Department and showed preferential treatment to an officer involved in a fatal shooting by:

1) Advising Guyger not to say anything while her camera was on.
2) Advising Guyger to turn off her in car camera system so they could talk in private.
3) Removing Guyger from an isolated squad car during an ongoing investigation
These are just the things we know. Suppression of evidence, protection of Police Officers, and disregard for Black Lives. But this is an indicator that this is the type of unethical policing Mata believes in and Mata has a track record that proves he is not the type of officer that Dallas wants or needs.

Mata pushed to delay this trial, has tried to prevent DPD from working with Dallas organizers pushing for Police Oversight, and shows a blatant disregard for the mission statement of the Dallas Police Department that says they, "will conduct themselves in an ethical manner."
This mission statement also says DPD will:
Be examples of honesty and integrity in their professional and personal lives, thereby earning the public trust; and Perform their duties with the knowledge that protection of the lives and property of ALL citizens is their primary duty.
But Mata had no intentions of protecting Botham Jean's life that night.

DPD should strive to have officers that protect and serve us all, not just their own. When an officer acts in a way that violates their general orders, that officer should be fired.

We are offering this opportunity for DPD to protect and preserve public trust by rooting out the conspiratorial culture that has tainted their relationship with the community.

By firing officers who act outside of our best interest, Dallas Police Department shows a commitment to being a morally sound Department dedicated to only the best for our community.
