Botham Jean Memorial Committe started this petition to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson

Dallas has only changed PART of Lamar St. to Botham Jean Blvd. For white Dallas they have white supremacist Lamar St. For African American/South Dallas they have Botham Jean Blvd. They are treating Botham Jean and blackness like a biohazard.

We need ALL of Lamar St. changed to Botham Jean Blvd. The current street names embed in the landscape racial division into Dallas society. Partial naming is tokenism.

We are facing opposition to the name change. Dallas city council is hoping that a partial name change will mean they don't have to change the whole street, especially where rich white people live.

We need to let Eric Johnson that a partial change isn't good enough. Tokenism isn't good enough. ALL of Lamar St. needs to be changed. White supremacy should not be left on the landscape.

We have info at the Botham Jean Memorial Committee on Facebook.

The link below is for the campaign in which the first section was renamed. It has the racist opposition to the name change documented as well as a historical paper on how racist Mirabeau Lamar was. Lamar St. is named after him. Warning some of the racism is graphic.
