Andrew Deacon started this petition to Dakota High School Administration

January 6th, 2020, Dakota High Schools bells have been changed for the first time since the building opened. This decision, although only implemented very recently, has been widely regarded as a poor choice, from students and staff alike, for not being loud enough, sounding odd and off-putting, and even being likened to sounds from ‘The Jetsons.’ As a response to the discomfort caused, on January 7th, 2020, Mr. Sibley described that we are unable to return to the old bells, however, they may take suggestions, as to make our school a better place to be. Through this petition, I speak for the people of Dakota High School, in that changing the bells to the iconic, simple, and recognizable sound, Bruh Sound Effect #2, rather than the current bells, would be the best choice for our new P.A. system.

  1. Bruh Sound Effect #2 is arguably one of the most recognizable tones created in the last decade, garnering almost 10 million views on YouTube, and spreading even further online through various memes, unlike the current bell, which has little to no cultural significance to the current generation. Changing the bell sound to Bruh Sound Effect #2 would allow administration to connect to the students of Dakota High School like never before, resulting in a more positive learning environment for everyone involved.
  2. Bruh Sound Effect #2 is distinct, easily heard, and does not mesh with other sounds and voices common in the school due to its iconic nature, unlike the bell tone, which has been mistaken for a marimba, a cell phone ringtone, and is said to be quiet, along with the 2 Minute Warning, which is nearly indistinguishable whilst in the hallway under others’ voices, resulting in tardies and other confusion. Bruh Sound Effect #2 would help solve the current issue of students unable to hear or recognize the current bell and 2 Minute Warning sounds.
  3. Bruh Sound Effect #2 is an enjoyable, and encouraging sound for the learning environment, especially in comparison to the jarring tones of the new bell tone. The single tone, comforting voice of Bruh Sound Effect #2 is endearing, encouraging, and tonally pleasant, compared to the awkward, unnatural pitches of the bell, akin to falling down the stairs while holding a cowbell. While conducting research and surveying for this petition, one DHS student stated, “That would make me actually want to go to class.”

In conclusion, for the reasons stated above, the current bell sound should be changed immediately, and the best choice for this change would be Bruh Sound Effect #2. Thank you for listening to the voices of our school, and please consider this when changing the sound of the new P.A. system.

”There’s 2 so you could have 2 different bells” -Tyler

“The Bruh Sound Effect #2 represents the feeling everyone has when the hour starts and ends, which would go perfectly for the hour bells.” -Nicco
