The pandemic is still in full effect, causing nearly 500 deaths in Lake County. The CDC as of 10/5 released “COVID-19 can sometimes be spread by airborne transmission. Some infections can be spread by exposure to virus in small droplets and particles that can linger in the air for minutes to hours. These viruses may be able to infect people who are further than 6 feet away from the person who is infected or after that person has left the space.
This kind of spread is referred to as airborne transmission and is an important way that infections like tuberculosis, measles, and chicken pox are spread.
There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than 6 feet away. These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation.”

This petition seeks to extend remote learning, at least until the end of the first semester. Returning to School now puts immunodeficient people at risk and stands to lower the quality of education received by those who cannot attend in school learning.

Accepting a mortality rate on schooling is simply unacceptable. Positivity rates in the area still fluctuate above 5, making Lake County still unready for hybrid learning.

Quality schooling for all, regardless of ability to come into a hybrid environment
Science, which continues to show how harmful COVID can be, especially to communities which reopen too fast

Logic. We are still in the midst of a pandemic of unprecedented proportions. Exposing children to the potential of irreversible harm to their health, or even death seeks to only placate those interested in their own convenience.

Selflessness. Although COVID may have no effect on you or your family, recognizing its effects on at-risk families in the area is imperative. Signing this petition is a way to show your support for those going through chemotherapy, immunosuppressants, and those in advanced age.
