D.W. Daniel competition cheer should be open to 7th-12th grade students.

It is unfair that our 7th and 8th grade children who enjoy cheerleading do not have the same rights as those in other sports in the Daniel attendance area. Our children would like to be given the opportunity to compete on the competitive level with the SCHSL. Right now, they don't have this right. We as parents have been informed that the reason our children cannot compete at the high school level on the competitive cheer team in 7th and 8th grades is because of the lack of interest to entertain the idea and lack of partnership between the programs to figure out the logistics. This is discrimination against the sport. The Daniel area has the highest number of student athletes commute to the high school to compete in sports, but is the only high school in the district that has a high school competition team that is off limits to 7th and 8th graders. Give our children the chance to show you just how big the interest is for this partnership to finally happen! It's not only right, it's the law according to Title IX since competitive cheer is not available at our middle school!
