Cancel the current semester and promote the students of D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering
Following the Mumbai University's decision to consider this lockdown period as interim vacations, D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering has also decided to do the same. However, this decision as of now, doesn't consider the following possibilities.
- What if the lockdown gets extended?
- Will it be safe to resume college right after the lockdown is over?
- Will we have a vaccine by then? Because if not then social distancing would still be required.
- Even if the college resumes, there's no guarantee that the college will be able to bring the academics back on track.
The corona virus outbreak has been increasing steadily and will still be a threat after 14th April. This has adversely affected all the students’ learning process, with regards to college as well as other exams like GRE, TOEFL, CAT, etc. Under these circumstances, the college’s decision to postpone and conduct the end semester exams in June 2020 will be a big burden for the students due to the following reasons.
- The pointers of students will also be adversely affected which will create a negative impact on their applications for abroad universities.
- Most of the students had already booked dates for GRE during the months of March and April and most of them have been rescheduled.
- Giving the GRE after June will adversely affect students' admissions in universities abroad.
- There is still no assurance of when the vaccine for the Coronavirus will be available.
- Once the college begins, even if we start completing the practicals and theory sessions that are left, it may become chaotic and a lot more stressful for the students.
- In addition to this, if exams are postponed, the third years will exceptionally suffer a lot.
- Even if the lockdown is terminated, there is no guarantee of when GRE exams will start again.
- May and June months are the time when students can apply for summer internships and build their resume.
- Many placement companies will start coming in June, for which students need time to prepare.
- If the exams get shifted to the month of June then the companies that come in June may not come to the college.
Even the Mukesh Patel School of Technology, Management and Engineering has decided to pass their students for the current semester. Hence, as students of DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering we strongly feel that the exams should be cancelled and all the students should be promoted to the next academic year.
Will the college take responsibility for the health of students if they resume the academic sessions and someone gets infected?
A single semester will not be as crucial to students as their health, placements and MS applications. Even after getting autonomy, if the college can't be concerned enough about the health and future of their students, then there's no use of such autonomy.
