WomenOnline For Women. About Women. By Women started this petition to cyril Ramaphosa

In the first three weeks of lockdown, there have been over 120 000 calls to the National Helpline for Gender Based Violence.

Women are trapped in their homes with violent partners with few options for assistance.

The National Helpline hotline is inundated with calls with the average waiting time being 10minutes before the call is answered

These women have nowhere else to go due to financial and lockdown constraints.

Mr President just as you have outlined a plan to limit covid 19 infections and assist the poorer communities with grants and food parcels, please allocate specific funding to

1. Provide significant monetary assistance to shelters that take in victims of GBV

2. Increase the capacity of the National Helpline so that it is able to cater for the large volumes of calls coming in

3. Appoint a Disaster relief task force specifically aimed at addressing the humanitarian need for increased protection and reaction for women who are trapped in homes with violent partners

We want a SPECIFIC, documented and detailed plan showing how the government will take extra measures to stop GBV. Let's not wait until more women die before action is taken. An urgent response by the government is needed now!
