Apparently, the approval process for art installations within the scope of works shown at The Center for Architecture Sarasota has, either involuntarily or voluntarily, lost touch with the potential for culturally insensitive works being displayed.
The recent installation from "artist" Jerry Sparkman entitled "The Face of MLK", is an insult to the residents of the community due to its blatant attempt to suggest that criminal activities such as drug usage and sales, and prostitution were historically exclusive to the Newtown community.
We demand its immediate removal and that the "artist" goes on record to issue a formal, public apology to the community.
