As a cyclist living in a city, biking is a love as well as a huge hassle. From ignorant drivers, to rampant theft of bikes and their respective parts. In a city with few and very thin bike lanes as it is, the safety of all cyclists comes into mind when lanes covered in gravel, rocks, glass, and garbage. Lanes with potholes deep enough to dent a car rim, almost unnoticeable lines to denote the separation of lanes, and double parked cars we must swerve into the street to avoid. Living and biking in the city takes skill, attention, and care, which is expected, but not to the extent we Chicago cyclists deal with. We need the city of Chicago to make these lanes safer, so we can get where we need to go safely. By Signing this petition, you are asking the city to clean the debris out of the bike lanes bi-monthly, patch the problematic potholes, and re-paint the lines of separation denoting that there is a bike lane on the street. Keep us who rely on bikes for transport in Chicago safe.
