The APOYO Food and Clothing Bank has been operating on the campus of Central Washington University for the past twenty years.  This past January we were told that our lease would not be renewed.  We serve over 270 families a month, most of them from our Hispanic minority community.  We also serve Central students, and we provide them with educational opportunities and community service hours.  Our founder, Philip Garrison, has spent the past 40 years studying Mexican culture and immigration and has written five books on the subject.  He participated in Central's Mexico program and has conducted field trips all over Mexico.  He has taught multicultural education and is an expert in the field.  Yet the new Dean of Student Success, with a BS in Business Administration, has arbitrarily decided that, after twenty years, Central "wasn't getting enough" out of its relationship with us.  We are an all volunteer organization.  We spend money only on food, and therefore we have no money to rent another space.  If the Dean gets his way, we will have to close, and hundreds of our most vulnerable community members will face extreme hardship.  Please help us by signing our petition to CWU's President and the Board of Trustees, urging them to overturn this heartless and cruel decision, especially while Trump is threatening to cut SNAP benefits and during the current pandemic.
