fefe v started this petition to Curtner Elementary School.

This is for Curtner Elementary School. During this quarantine, I ask you to lower our work. I know you will say, "You are mature enough to do this work," and ignore our petition. We simply just ask you to lower our work.

One of our reasons is the stress and pressure you put on us. Now, this depends and carries on classes but the slides for books we are reading are viciously long. You can't expect an 11/12-year-old to complete all of that. Today, a teacher from the 6th grade, whom of which I will not reveal, called my parents. Now I know why since I know I am missing some work. Please take notice of a kid's mental health, not all of us are 'mature' like you want us to be.

My second and last reason is the downside to online learning. In a Brookings Institution report, it was shown that students that take online courses do significantly worse than students who are face-to-face with a teacher in a classroom and online students are most likely to drop out of college with a bad performance in future classes. Many kids who take online or do online from time to time tend to multitask, which in a study from the Unversity of London finds that people who multitask experienced a drop in IQ compared to the mental decline caused by staying up all night and a 2014 study published in PLoS One found that multitasking might permanently diminish the brain's density.

This last paragraph will be the opinions of me and other students. We feel as though we aren't mature enough to do the loads and loads of work you give us each week. You say you can't lower our work yet you create 'Thoughtful Thursday'. It's quite literally the same schedule but just shifted every day. You say we should have less screen time but all our work is online. A certain teacher said a certain student didn't turn in their work when they did and Google Classroom said it was graded. We don't feel like the way you are currently 'teaching' us is a very good way of teaching, we feel like you're just throwing work at us expecting us to know what we should do.

Please, just please lower the work. To Ms. M, I thank you for not giving us a load of work and taking it easy for us, you truly are a wonderful teacher.
