The current marking rubric for Civil Engineering Research Project (CERP) needs to be adjusted to provide a fair allocation of marks towards technical content rather than the current main focus, one's writing ability. The faculty's expectations for English ability has been defined, consciously or otherwise, during assessments given throughout the degree. Many students were disadvantaged due to this rapid change of expectations. Student's who have otherwise secured first class honours through hard, consistent work and sacrifice throughout their degree, have now severely reduced their chances of receiving honours. We ask that marking should be better balanced to reinforce the purpose of the assessment - displaying thorough technical knowledge that is communicated in a way that can be understood and applied.
