Lift the New York Travel Ban to Mississippi

Dear CUNY Law Administration,
We, the students, faculty and alumni of CUNY Law ask that the school lift the ban that prevents CUNY Law students from traveling to Mississippi.
We understand that per the travel ban, Governor Cuomo banned all non-essential state funded travel to Mississippi because of the state’s enactment of a hateful law that permits businesses to discriminate against the LGBT community.
However, this nonstrategic travel ban is not the solution because it only alienates and ignores marginalized communities in Mississippi.
We ask that the students of the Mississippi Project be allowed to travel to Mississippi and work with residents of Mississippi to overturn the hateful laws enacted by the state.
In the past, students in the Mississippi Project have worked on matters spanning from drafting complaints against employers that discriminate to advocating for workers’ rights.
