Why this petition matters

Started by Brian BAKER

On 20/08/2020 Cumbria County Council will meet to reevaluate their permission for mining. We wish to support the proposal for the following reasons. Aneurin Bevan once stated that "This island is made mainly of coal and surrounded by fish. Only an organizing genius could produce a shortage of coal and fish at the same time." But if resource mining is handed over to the greens then it becomes easy. Germany and Japan have learnt the hard way of proceeding down the ideological road of energy purity results in ever more increasing in energy costs. In Germany nuclear power stations are being closed and new high efficiency low emissions power thermal plants are being built. With the Han power station a 20,000 hectare forest has been leveled along with the demolition of an entire village. The same goes for Japan where construction of HELE power stations are being accelerated as a result of the accident at the nuclear Fukushima plant. Add to that the enormous growth in coal powered plants in China, India and South Africa - the last being badgered by the greens to keep their enormous resources in the ground.  Coal is an essential resource and should not be labeled as a dirty fuel as it is the base for many industrial processes. Banning its exploitation will only result is the transfer of the emissions being undertaken in another country with far less restrictive environmental practices and will transfer Cumbrian jobs to these countries as well.
