Newton North is a predominantly white school, while we do have many POC affinity groups, I feel as though they are not heard or talked about enough as they should be. Not that many people are educated on all the different and beautiful cultures there are out there, even within POC communities. A culture day will showcase many diverse traditions that are in our school. I also believe it is also a great form of POC solidarity, and a great way to have us all connect. It’s important for us to be recognized, as we have been stripped from our cultures for centuries. Some things we would do during this day is showcase all the different cultural and traditional clothing, music, and activities. It would be great to have panels where people can flaunt their traditional clothing. Another panel idea would be where different people from different ethnicities can bond over traditions or the way they grow up at home. It not only shows POC solidarity, but it also educates many white and POC people about the unheard diversity within our school. Please sign this petition to make this happen!!
