John Hocher started this petition to CTX Students and Staff

Concordia University Texas has a plan to build an athletic complex on the area of campus accessed by Tornado Trail. While these facilities will benefit the Concordia community and we support their construction, we want to work with university decision-makers to focus development on another part of campus. Construction in the chosen location will result in the destruction of habitat for the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and the threatened Jollyville Plateau salamander. While this plan complies with the Endangered Species Act, it will result in additional harm to these protected species and to others. Furthermore, in building in the proposed location, we also lose opportunities for outdoor recreation, outdoor education, outdoor events, and neighborhood connections. We believe we can work with university leaders to create an alternative plan that maintains the ecological, academic, and cultural value of Tornado Trail, while also securing the athletic complex for our community.

Construction will begin sometime in 2022. We hope to use this petition to ask the university to delay its construction plans so that we have time to come to a compromise. If you support the preservation of Tornado Trail AND the construction of an athletics complex, please sign our petition.
