On October 7th CSULB experienced a lockdown that exposed the lack of security measures and safety protocol. The University has a responsibility to do everything in their power to keep us safe and they are failing us miserably. School shootings happen and there is an increase in the amount of shootings year after year. Something needs to be done NOW to ensure our safety. Had a shooting or an equivalent threat happened on October 7th many students and staff would have been exposed due to the lack of locks on campus! The only instructions most of us received was the message telling us to hide. WE WILL NOT WAIT FOR A TRAGEDY TO HAPPEN! Even if it isn't a simple task-it is worth it. Our lives are worth it! Please sign our petition and let the school know that our lives matter and they need to act accordingly. We should not wait for a tragedy to implement change.

Two places where we would like to see an immediate response towards change from CSULB are the following.

1. We are asking for locks to be installed in all classrooms that currently have broken locks or no locks at all

2. A plan to improve the university alert system. Many students and staff were confused at the kind and level of threat on campus on October 7th. Many Professors ignored the school warning due to its vagueness. An alert system that gives more instruction, updates, and details.

3. Faculty and staff training on what to do during shootings and emergency situations.
