Keep CSU Education Affordable

The problem that we are tackling is affordable education; specifically, the raises in tuition prices to our school, California State University, Monterey Bay, and the other state universities around California. In a school wide email, sent on March 24th 2017, CSU Monterey Bay president, Eduardo Ochoa, stated that the CSU Board of Trustees had voted to increase tuition for the 2017-2018 school year by $270. This vote took place, and passed, because Governor Jerry Brown’s January 2017 budget proposal provided less than 50% of the budget increase that the CSUs had requested. This is the first time since 2011 that such a tuition increase has occurred.
We are making this petition to halt any further tuition increases and to find more funding elsewhere. A main goal of the CSU system should be to keep or education affordable and to not immediately resort to charging the students more money for tuition. Please sign this petition to help us send a message to the CSU Board of Trustees that we will not stand for any further tuition increases and that we want to keep our education affordable.
