CSIR NET/JRF exam conducted by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research is an exam of national importance which awards Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship. The number of aspirants from Kerala appearing for this exam on bi-yearly basis has been scaling up and the malabar region from Palakkad to Kasargode comprising of 7 districts stands out with regard to number of applicants as the region covers more than 50% of Kerala’s total population and also has univerisities with highest number of student intake. In the present scenario candidates from malabar region face extreme hardship relying on centers in Cochin and Trivandrum allocated in Kerala, though there is sizable number of candidates from malabar compared to other parts of Kerala. This must be viewed in light of continuous regional discrimination towards malabar which can be traced back in history concerning allocation of all resources including educational provisions. Many of the central level exams like SSC examination which even necessitates technological facilities for online exams have centers in Kozhikode by virtue of substantial number of IT hubs, cyber parks and educational institutions based in city. Hence, the situation calls for an immediate allocation of an additional exam centre for CSIR NET/JRF in , malabar region, Kozhikode, on account of severe inconvenience faced by aspirants which is also a result of regional imbalance between malabar and other regions of Kerala.
