Cruise ship crew have been in lockdown since the beginning of March. All passengers have been allowed to return home, however, the crew remain onboard the vessels. Quarantined and isolated far away from home and their loved ones. Crew are still required to do boat drills on empty ships even though it violates social distancing. Anchored out at sea, confined in cabins. There are no cooking appliances in these cabins, crew still need to eat in the dining areas amongst each other. Crew are dying of Covid-19 yet contained in a box with the same air and recycled water circulating cabin to cabin. As matters now stand, crew members from around the world, have little support from the cruise industry regarding mental health. Suicide is on the rise, crew are worried and lonely. They have just as many rights as the passengers and need to return home to their loved ones. Their family and friends are also suffering, not only with the loss of their loved ones who have sadly been infected with Covid-19, but also the absence of their partners and families, not knowing if they will ever return home.

To all cruise liner companies, these individuals are your crew, not your prisoners. You have no cruises to sell, no passengers to please. You have taken their passports and locked all the doors. Your crew are on a floating prison. They are the people who make your company great. It’s time to show your appreciation and make their welfare your top priority. They will be ready to work when your business returns to normal. Return them home to their children, their partners, their families and friends.

Be the best at everything you do and be the one who stands out from the rest. Be a company of your word and do what’s right, take them home.
