We the undersigned DEMAND that CRTC force Canadian Telecom companies, who offer landline and/or mobile services to immediately establish means by which customers can block unwanted/scam callers from interrupting our homes and our lives.
It is our expectation that by the end of Q1-2021 at the VERY LATEST all customers be given the option to add a Telecom service that allows them to select or block callers having access to their devices at all times or according to the subscribers' schedule.
While the Telecoms work on a solution to digitally stop these nuisance calls, we express our rights to be offered a “Do Not Disturb” type of service whereby we can program our lines to accept or decline a variety of (or all) calls attempting to reach our numbers.
This could be offered as an opt-in service at a nominal charge (or provided free to customers requesting it for a limited time frame) while the Telecoms work on a more permanent solution that can be integrated into the network, not on each individual line.
Furthermore, we expect that a multi-company campaign be implemented explaining to customers the benefits of subscribing to such a service, especially that it will allow each customer to control who has the ability to get through to their number, and to select the times of day this privilege will be available.
We the undersigned are tired of waiting for something to be done while scammers run rampant, not being blocked from calling us at any time regardless of whether we wish to accept calls, are on a “Do Not Call” list, are unable to see our call display or might be concerned about missing an important call if the line is just left to go to voicemail.
Finally, we expect that the CRTC will follow up on this request once it receives notification of it (once we have reached a significant amount of signatures on this petition).
