Bring the Super Mario Brothers Movie (1993) To 4k resolution with the Criterion Collection
Why this petition matters
"A long long time ago, the Earth was ruled by dinosaurs. They were big, so not a lot of people went around hassling 'em. Actually, no people went around hassling 'em cuz there weren't any people yet. Just the first tiny mammals. Basically, life was good. Then something happened"
Narrator, Super Mario Brothers Movie
Lost to the times, the hidden gem that is the Mario Brothers Movie adaption has not had the legacy it deserves. In its tales of adventure, love, brotherhood, time travel(?), and plumbing, the Super Mario Brothers Movie transcends other films of its time and caliber by subverting and deeply exploring ideas oversaturating it's thematic environment. In doing so, it was critically panned. Critics of the time lacked the theoretical understanding to grasp it's loftier goals, thematic intentions, and advancements for the medium. We hope that the modern equivelant, the board of the Criterion Collection, see the merit in the film and it's redistribution on 4k resolution for modern devices. Furthermore, we would like to pivot the momentum of this movement, upon it's inevitable success, into securing the development for a sequel/soft reboot, Super Mario Brothers 2: Brothers in Time. Penning the sequel will be Uwe Boll, and M. Night Shamalan. This can only be achieved by once again reinventing perspectives on the film, namely the critics and the public. Spread the message. Get it into the view of Criterion. And remember, the dinosaurs live on, not far from us here in the streets of New York.
