Criminalise Parental Alienation - this is a form of passive child abuse.

There are many children of broken homes out there who have been stripped off the rights to connect with one of their estranged parents.

As much as this causes depression to alienated parents, it too causes confusion, stress and possible behavioural problems in children.

In Malaysia, the issue of parental alientation does not enjoy the same limelight as physical child abuse cases. This is most probably because there is no one definitive set of behaviors that constitute parental alienation. However, research with both parents and children has revealed a core set of alienation strategies, including -

- bad-mouthing the other parent,
- limiting contact with that parent,
- erasing the other parent from the life and mind of the child (forbidding discussion and pictures of the other parent)
- forcing the child to reject the other parent,
- creating the impression that the other parent is dangerous
- forcing the child to choose
- and belittling and limiting contact with the extended family of the targeted parent.

I have been approached by alienated parents who are very concern of their kids’ well being. I have witnessed children getting frightened to speak to a parents for fear of getting reprimanded by the alienator.

Children will thrive in life even though their parents split as long as both parents do their best in co-parenting.

Therefore, in order to protect the rights of children and to safeguard their general well-being too, we ask the Government to implement policies to stop parental alienation. We call for the establishment of a special task force to research and investigate the psychological and behavioural effects of parental alienation in children.

Parental Alienation is a form of Mental Abuse to Children so this needs to be criminalised just like any other form of physical abuse.
