Emily Janssen Schunke started this petition to Crescent City Village Board

The CI High School building is still in sound, usable condition. However, if it is allowed to sit without power and heat, it will start to deteriorate rapidly. At present, the school district still owns the building. However they have the ability to sell it to the village of Crescent City. The repairs and maintenance in the building would then be funded by a nonprofit organization called The Crescent Iroquois Foundation.

This petition is to show the board that the village, community, and alumni support the village purchasing the school. There is some liability that comes with this and so they are hesitant to move forward. However, if left as is, the school district cannot afford to tear the building down and will either let it rot or will have to propose a bond to secure the funds to tear it down, which in turn will raise taxes.

The foundation will be working with local charitable organizations to fund the repairs and maintenance as well as renting out the gym and holding fundraisers. There will be no cost passed to tax payers. The residents of this county do no want a big building slowly falling down on the side of 24. Not to mention that this building is still in great shape for its age and is completely usable! It would be a waste to lose the building and a major blight for the town if it should be allowed to deteriorate.
