On Saturday January 12, 2013 my daughter and 2 of her friends were at Creel Park waiting for another friend when 3 guys walked up and held them at gun point to steal their cell phones they got for Christmas. It happened in the middle of the day while the park was full of other people (mostly children). As soon as the gunmen ran off, my daughter and her friends ran home as fast as possible to get help. I called the police but all they could do was make a report because my daughter and her friends didn't know the guys that robbed them at gunpoint. No one at Creel Park would give out any information about the assailants or the robbery due to fear of retaliation. This is important to me because if cameras had been installed when the crime rate first started going up at Creel Park, the guys who robbed my daughter would be in custody today instead of being free to rob someone else. There are several groups of guys that sit at Creel Park waiting to pick a target to rob but they are never caught because the victims can't identify them and the witness' are afraid to. A camera recording the parks activity would help reduce crime and help catch the criminals. I'm thankful that my daughter and her best friends got home unharmed that day. I don't want to wait until someone else's child is the victim of a robbery turned murder before I act. So please help me make Creel Park a safer place for our children.
