The Atlantic City Skate Zone has been in business since the late 1990’s. The Skate Zone is approximately 4 blocks from the beach and is close to many casinos making it a desirable location for families.

The Atlantic City Skate Zone is home to the Atlantic City Sharks which fields several travel teams as well as an in house league, middle/high school teams, figure skating, a mens league, learn to skate programs and the Stockton University Ice Hockey Team.

Between the CRDA (which owns the land and the building), the City of Atlantic City and Black Bear Hockey they are unable to come with a lease option/plan to keep the Skatezone open for business and the rink will close in March of 2022.

The Atlantic City Skate Zone is home to the Art Dorrington Foundation. Art Dorrington was the first African American to sign a professional hockey contract who made his home in Atlantic City. The Art Dorrington program encourages inner city kids to get involved playing youth ice hockey. The program has since dissolved and is no longer operating in Atlantic City which is devastating to the kids that loved skating.

The closest rink to Atlantic City is well over an hour away making it hard for the families of the Sharks organization to find another rink should this rink shut down. Many of the boys and girls that play for the Sharks have been with the organization since they were 4 and 5 years old and are now in high school facing the possibility that their beloved rink will close after this years hockey season ends.

Many parents fear the rink will shut down and become another eye sore in Atlantic City much like the Sandcastle Stadium next door to the Skate Zone.
