CPS Parent Choice started this petition to Cranston School Department and

School Districts across the state of Rhode Island will be making a decision this month on whether or not to require masking of children in school. We ask the Cranston School Department to please not mandate the wearing of masks but instead to let the parents decide if their children should be masked. Healthy children should not be masked as studies show it causes more harm than good.  The risks of complications from COVID-19 to children are extremely low (just see CDC website data) and now that adults have the option to vaccinate, teachers and staff can take action to protect themselves without taking the freedom of choice away from parents. We should be given the freedom and responsibility to make decisions for our own children's health and well being.  Don't take that away from the individual families and let us assess the risk for our own children.

Consider the following:

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics found that the wearing of nose and mouth coverings by children leads to an increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in both inhaled and exhaled air while wearing a mask. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2781743

Complete loss of emotional cues normally given by facial expression when covered by a face mask

Young children's masks are often dirty and end up on the floor and then back on their face.  Frequent hand washing and extra sanitary measures are much more useful than wearing a potentially dirty mask in the classroom.
