As all of us are aware our Police department is supposed to ensure our safety and PROTECT our rights. For years the Cranston Police department has failed the people of Cranston. By using tactics against practical ethics and moral standards they have stripped us of our sense of security as well as stripped us of our confidence in a system that's meant to SERVE AND PROTECT its people. I myself a college student have been pulled over and harassed while simply walking because I "look like I'm up to no good". I'm writting this as within less of a mile radius we have 5 patrol cars..on one street..in a city with little to no crime that conspire to finesse the people of Cranston into breaking rules in a ploy to increase their “productivity”. This serves no purpose other than keep us on edge to and from the very jobs that keep them operating. This pettitiom is a beg for change from the people of Cranston. This is not a petition in disapproval of the exemplary Rhode Island Police Force or the Cranston Police Officers who carry out their duties diligently but a cry for help in our city to hold The Cranston Police Department accountable not only for the physical but mental and emotional damage they have caused. I've seen young boys be incarcerated for petty crimes that even fed up-furious onlookers are seen emotionally speaking out against in disapproval, I've seen them set citizens up to break laws, verbally/ physically abuse people in custody knowing their position of vulnerability, unnecessary stop and searches. None of these complaints are without proof. Video and picture evidence to support these claims are readily available. This has been a long time coming. If you care about the safety of our city and the freedoms that are being casually suppressed till have none SIGN PLEASE.
