Craigslist bans ads for pet sales, but it does not enforce its rules. The free ads have resulted in an explosion of backyard breeding and irresponsible adoptions. Today, more than ONE MILLION pit bulls are euthanized at animal shelters in the U.S., in large part because Craigslist has made it free and easy to sell animals. Animals are suffering, and this practice must stop.

Letter to
CEO, Craigslist, Inc. Jim Buckmaster
You have banned pet ads for household pets, but you do not enforce the rules. The only thing left for you to do is ban ALL pet ads. As a result of your free ads, millions of pets are euthanized in overcrowded shelters at taxpayer expense, most of them pit bulls, thousands of backyard breeders have bred thousands of unwanted dogs, dogfighters have an unending source of dogs to maim and kill, and scammers have come out of the closet to post ads in the Pets section to pull at our heartstrings. It MUST stop. San Francisco area shelters asked you to stop the ads back in 2005. The situation has gotten MUCH worse.

It is time for you to do the right thing!
