To reclaim and preserve the people's pathway to Tugun Beach

We, the people of Tugun (and friends thereof), move to preserve the Tugun Beach pathway next to the Surf Life Saving Club.
A proposed boat shed extension has been set in motion by the Gold Coast City Council. The land on which the development will reside, was a generous donation from the Wilkinsons over 50 years ago. The Wilkinson family home was situated on the beachfront parklands and after the family's passing, was kindly donated to the public. This generous offering ensured the community of Tugun would continue to benefit from a shared pathway, that led us all to the beach we so love.
These plans directly affect the safety of our community. Most notably, the children’s playground will be only metres away from moving vehicles with trailers obscured from plain sight, posing serious concerns. Also, the accessibility to the club and surrounding areas for emergency services will be greatly impacted and will increase overcrowding issues with the area's already growing popularity.
Our beach, as the ultimate democratic experience, should be conserved by our local council members. Of course we understand the importance of our Surf Life Saving Club and the vital role it plays in our community. All we ask is to be part of the conversation. To hear specific details of the proposed plans and voice our opinions. A thoughtful family donated their land in the interests of the people. We hope the council will acknowledge this act of inclusivity and pay respect to Tugun's local heritage.
In these shifting sands, we must stand together and unite.
By signing this petition you approve of opening up a dialogue between the community and the council on the future of our dearest, Tugun Beach.
