Why this petition matters

Started by Piyush Gupta

Every year around DIWALI delhi become SMOG capital due to burning of crackers and STUBBLE burning in punjab. This causes difficulty to breathe and force us to intake polluted air which can in severe case cause lung cancer. This polluted air can affect our children and most severely people with breathing problems. That breathing of harmful air consisting of methane(CH4) and nitrous oxide(N2O) can result in severe diseases and this menace need to be stopped⛔.

Delhi government is doing what it can on its part but we as the residents of delhi are responsible to help government in this initiative to reduce pollution rather than just sit back and criticise them. Delhi government has invited its residents to give them solutions and steps to curb pollution in INDIA's capital. This is our territory and it is our responsibility to keep it fresh and living. We can write to government of delhi our steps and solitions to curb pollution and request them to have a dialogue with the government of Punjab at administrative level to stop stubble burning as it will only make the situation worse.Instead of burning of the stubble, it can be used in different ways like cattle feed, compost manure, roofing in rural areas, biomass energy, mushroom cultivation, packing materials, fuel, paper, bio-ethanol and industrial production, etc.Ifwe can propose steps and successfully implement them, we can reduce toxic gases being emitted through burning of stubble and CRACKERS too. And if we ignore and let that happen Be ready to breathe in toxic air and do your health insurance in advance.

It is alarming ⏰ as every year government National Policy for Management of Crop Residues to protect the parali (crop residue). On December 10, 2015, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had banned crop residue burning in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.Burning crop residue is a crime under Section 188 of the IPC and under the Air and Pollution Control Act of 1981. However, government’s implementation lacks strength. So we need to aware to compel them for this alarming situation. According to an estimate, 20 million tonnes of rice stubble is produced every year in Punjab alone, 80 per cent of which is burnt.A study estimates that crop residue burning released 149.24 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), over 9 million tonnes of carbon monoxide (CO), 0.25 million tonnes of oxides of sulphur (SOX), 1.28 million tonnes of particulate matter and 0.07 million tonnes of black carbon. These directly contribute to environmental pollution, and are also responsible for the haze in Delhi and melting of Himalayan glaciers.

SO IT IS UPTO US EITHER TO SUPPORT THIS AND BREATHE FRESH AIR OR SIT BACK AND CRITICISE GOVERNMENT FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING AS IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE GOVERNMENT DO THEIR JOB.
