An Open Letter from the Set Dressers Guild of Ontario (SDGO) to The Commercial Production Association of Toronto (CPAT)
June 26th, 2017
Dear Michelle D’Ercole, CPAT Board Members,
Representing the interests of Set Dressers working on CPAT productions, the SDGO coalesced around the necessity to address major issues within the commercial production industry.
We are writing this letter to request the introduction of an elected Set Dresser liaison at CPAT; wages for Set Dressers in CPAT productions that are comparable to the rates of other technical departments; and a minimum turnaround time of 10 hours for the health and safety of our members.
We all stand to benefit if the industry is able to attract and retain talented and responsible Set Dressers who undertake their duties and long hours with professionalism and integrity. We promote an understanding within our ranks of our responsibilities and hope to establish a level of set etiquette befitting the high standards found in our industry. We strive for greater accountability within our teams and a stronger workforce.
The following proposals are intended to create the conditions that will incentivize talented Dressers to commit to commercials.
What We Are Proposing:
- Elected Crew Liaison
To represent the interests of Set Dressers at CPAT meetings and to address any issues or concerns relevant to Set Dressers
- a) Hourly shoot day rates in line with other technical departments at CPAT
Up to 10 hours; 1.5x up to 12hrs; 2x up to 14hrs; 3x 15hrs and beyond
b) Prep/Pre-dress/Wrap rate increase
Day rate up to 10 hours, equivalent hourly beyond
- Mandatory turnaround of no less than 10 hours
We look forward to speaking with you about these requests and to coming to a mutually beneficial agreement.
