I am the grandparent of a child attending a public elementary school in Polk county Florida.I am writing this petition with the hope that the current school regulations on attendance can be  changed due to the covid 19 pandemic and just recently the highly contagious Omoricon variant,as we have been dealing with this pandemic now for 2years there has been opposition from some parents on vaccinations to combat the virus as well as opposition over the mask mandates in schools the CDC has approved both methods as a few of the ways to combat the spread of the virus.I would like the Polk county Board of Education in Florida and the superintendent of schools Ms. Barbara Jenkins to be made aware that there are children within families because of the pandemic that have been forced to relocate back in homes with family. Due to loss of jobs.This places these children like my granddaughter in a generational household I am a senior with heart failure and recently suffered a heart attack. I am at severe risk of hospitalization or death if I contract the virus while none of us are guaranteed protection of not contracting the virus,I like many other parents felt the need to do what was best for our households and keep our children grandchildren or disabled children home during this last surge of the virus after the holiday break until the infections in our community or school district didn't have a high transmission rate amoungst staff and students in the schools they attend,it is for this reason I am asking parents please sign this petition so that the current laws in the public school system in reference to attendance can be updated during this pandemic  to reflect the change that any student with proof of there living situation with a vulnerable family member would be granted excused absences and a work packet sent home while this pandemic and it's sub variants surge's and infections are high in that school or district.This is a public safety health issue when the mandates set forth that mask be worn to prevent the spread of the virus is not followed in schools and vaccines are not mandatory it puts elderly or persons with illnesses at homes at a higher risk of contracting the virus parents should be able to have a choice on there child getting the vaccine or wearing a mask parents or caregives should have a choice on there child attending school when these factors are an issues.While we all wish for an end to the pandemic we can't be certain when that will happen living with the virus as a threat may be something we have to adjust to and cope with the changes as a result of it make your voice on this matter count please sign the petition.
