Manholes are holes with metal covering made on the roads and walkways to aid drainage and eradicate erosion. These manhole has been left uncovered by some miscreant who steals the irons for blacksmith use and resell for money. Many Nigerian has been victims of car accident along the uncovered manhole path and severe injury due to these open manholes and these manhole has been converted to incinerator holes leading to erosion around the said site, Abuja.

The manholes needs to be cleaned and covered with metals and external measures should be put in place to curb the stealing of the covers or non metal materials which are strong and efficient should be utilized instead. The Government has a hand to play in this so as the citizens and private sectors. Funds should be available to such effects and myself and colleagues would come up with a befitting proposal for better covers and measures to be put in place.

The proposal if executed will enhance the major city Abuja as it is the central capital. It would save lot of Nigerians and cars from severe injuries and damage and also help the drainage system of the city. But if not would just cause more damages to cars, injuries to Nigerians and erosion cannot be avoided.

The uncovered manhole has left some people forever incapacitated, jobless, ruined businesses and even caused death. Covering of the manhole cannot be over emphasized at this point in time. I really hope this proposal is looked into and something is done about it.
