Keep Indian Music Free from Sexual Assault

Keep Indian Music Free from Sexual Assault
Why this petition matters

The Gundecha Brothers, a group of famous classical Indian musicians, have all been accused of over 25+ 'Reported' sexual assault against their students from around the world. An Internal Complaints Committee (consisting of Independent experts & students of Sansthan) was formed in Winter of 2020-21 to investigate the claims of misconduct under the sexual harassment of women at the workplace act in India. This committee ,having done detailed investigations, found all three brothers: Umakant, Akilesh, and Late Ramakant to be involved in these acts. The ICC committee in turn provided multiple steps for the Gundecha Brothers and their school- Dhrupad Sansthan- to take including: creating a board of supervisors to support all students with claims of sexual abuse, No teachings /public performances at Sansthan ,for stipulated time, undergoing therapy,Public apology to students who suffered, forming an executive committee to facilitate sensitization at the school, and reorganizing the school's policies so that this sort of abuse will never happen again. Despite a proper case brought against them with testimonials from survivors, the Gundecha Brothers are denying the fact that any of this happened.
We would like to request to the high court of Madhya Pradesh to listen ,note & bring justice to the survivors and safety to those who would like to study Indian classical music free of abuse. We are asking you to sign this petition as a way to support the students who were abused in this case, to maintain the dignity of dhrupad music or any other art forms , and to keep Indian classical music a safe and accessible art form for all artists from around the world. We are sharing this petition with the court of Madhya Pradesh to show them that people around the globe want to see safety for women and dignity maintained in this high art of India.
