Serious accidents and the potential for loss of life will occur if traffic lights are not installed expeditiously at the intersection of County Road 4 (Hwy 11) and Line 9 of BWG. Julie Scruton, P.Eng. Manager, Transportation Construction with The County of Simcoe has said the traffic analysis and updated traffic count data have determined the traffic signal warrant is met in the year 2023. The County plans to reconstruct the first phase of the CR 4 widening from two to four lanes in 2020 / 2021, depending on County budget approval. The design for the intersection improvements at CR 4 / 9th Line BWG will be revised to include traffic signals. It is both irresponsible and short-sighted to suggest five years must pass before lights are installed. Traffic volume comprised of commuters, residents, heavy equipment, and tourists is steadily increasing. This situation has reached a critical point. Immediate action is required! Temporary traffic lights are often installed in our community prior to final completion of a project. Proactive and responsible governments could accomplish this very quickly with four hydro poles, 500 feet of wire and four light fixtures.
