County Worker started this petition to County of Santa Clara and

Shortly after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, County of Santa Clara workers in departments where operations allowed them to, have been working remotely via telework. As the pandemic continues and the surge of the Delta variant is increasing COVID positive cases, hospitalizations and deaths, we demand the County of Santa Clara continue its telework operations, where applicable, until the pandemic is under control. Almost all transactions can be completed remotely and have been for the past 16 months, the public and all clients have been serviced to the same professional standard as they were prior to the COVID pandemic.

The County of Santa Clara has reopened and is encouraging the public to visit offices in the middle of a public health crisis. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) information states, vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals can carry the virus, spread the virus and have reduced protections due to the highly contagious Delta variant. With immunization protections waning, we feel that reopening the County of Santa Clara at this time is an endangerment to the public and their families, County employees and their families, and sets a dangerous precedent that appearances are more important than public health.

When every hospital visit, hospitalization or ICU bed is currently needed for the surge of COVID patients and those with current hospital needs, taking a chance at overloading the public health system (hospitals, medical clinics, doctors’ offices, etc.) is something that can be prevented by this simple measure.

Please sign this petition to support a safe environment for the public and the public servants who provide them service.
