Problem
There is an increase in the number of homeless men and woman in Los Angeles and surrounding counties. The number of those living in the streets increased by 75% roughly from 32,000 to 55,000 in the last six years. With three out of four homeless people living in cars, campers and tents. This means that these people lack the necessary basic amenities people need in everyday life.
Making a care kit or care package as an alternative to handing out money that could lead to more serious issues with drugs and alcohol. Giving money isn't the best option.
Solution
My idea would be for the city to help in allocating funds and resources albeit from private donations or city funds to make and distribute care kits for homeless people in the surrounding areas. Care kits would include the basic necessities like snacks and water, socks, hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant and feminine hygiene products) for both men and woman and a recourse guide with information on where to access private and city programs, such as mental health programs, free clinics, shelters and food banks. This would help to prevent the spread of infectious diseases like hepatitis A,B and C, HIV/AIDS. all due to poor nutrition and hygiene.

My name is Moses Barragan. I was born and raised in South Los Angeles and have seen the growing number of displaced people living on the streets of Los Angeles. In the past year the increasing number of homeless have taken over the streets of my community and they're really no resources around the area to provide the homeless with the necessary information they need to improve their living conditions. This kit would help in remedying some of the problems.
