Josh Maki started this petition to County Commissioners St. Louis County, MN and

To petition Paul McDonald and other St. Louis County, MN Commissioners to take over Camp 26 Truck Trail as a County Road.

This situation with US Forestry Road 118, Camp 26 Truck Trail which is east of Makinen has been bothering residents for quite some time.

This 10 mile stretch of road, as you may know, connects a lot of people from Hwy 16 to Hwy 4. Many commuters in areas such as Hoyt Lakes use this road to get to Duluth from their home. There are also over a dozen full time residents that live off Camp 26. There are over 100 cabins/homes off of camp 26 not including many hunting shacks.

Linwood Lake and the Harris Bay section of Whiteface both have lake associations that pull money together to pay roughly $4000 per year to pay for plowing. This is on top of the taxes we already pay into the county. It does benefit these property owners, but also all of the public, that do not pitch in to pay for plowing. We are all for being generous, but this is outrageous for us to have to do.

The forestry has said that they can only budget for grading 3-4 times per year. This is not efficient enough to keep the road at a safe and smooth manner. The road is bombarded with potholes. If the road was maintained and graded more throughout the summer and high traffic times, we would see less damage to our vehicles and the road. Along with safer driving.

We propose that Camp 26 becomes a county road and not a forestry road. I think that it would highly benefit all of the residents and property owners, as well as all of the public that use this road.

This includes emergency vehicles if need be.
