Problem
When traffic is slowed or stopped on I-24 East, many people choose to exit to find a better route. This leads to congestion downtown. Anyone who has exited using the 180A off-ramp comes to a stop sign and has to cross seven lanes of traffic that only has a caution light. When traffic is congested, more accidents are likely. Accidents cost the city, it's people, and our hospital/healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, not to mention the emotional costs of injury or death. The numbers of accidents at this intersection have been notable to our EMS who have to respond to accidents there multiple times per year.

Solution
Everyone would be safer with tighter traffic control at the intersection of 23rd and Central (exit 180A off of I-24) in downtown Chattanooga, TN. Let's start the discussion of what options are available to remedy this very dangerous situation. Please support this petition to get the City of Chattanooga talking about the safety of our streets.

Personal story
I have been personally affected by this intersection. A stop sign leaves much to human error and seven lanes of traffic in a congested situation has cost me greatly. Please don't let this happen to anyone else. It is time for a simple change.
