Abandon plans to relocate Dalbeattie Library to the new schools campus.

In a recent consultation, local residents overwhelmingly expressed their opinion that the library (and related council services) should remain where it is, at the centre of the community, on the High Street.
This is important because:
1. A central High Street location is ideally accessible to the majority of local residents, and particularly convenient for the elderly or disabled who can combine a visit to the library with doing their shopping, banking or using the Post Office.
2. To move the library away from the centre of town would be potentially harmful to local shops and businesses, by taking potential customers off the High Street.
3. To close the library would be to create a further empty building on the High Street, which creates a poor impression on visitors and locals, and could potentially become an eyesore.
4. Locating these resources within the schools complex would be inviting large numbers of members of the public into the vicinity, with potential risks to the safety and well-being of vulnerable children and young people.
