Town Paves Over Our Skate Park. Help Us Get It Back!

Ward 6 Councillor Rob Hargrave will be helping his constituents to ensure the Park Drive Junior Skate Park equipment doesn’t stay mothballed waiting indefinitely on studies. Rob will be presenting this petition to Town Council at their June 6th Council Meeting.

Please Council, fast track the relocation of the Park Drive Junior Skate Park to another site within Memorial Park as part of Stouffville’s Canada 150 celebrations this summer.

We should be celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary by investing in community projects and not by bulldozing them.

The Park Drive Junior Skate Park was a valuable addition to the community when it was installed back in 2006 and has been enjoyed by many kids and those young at heart. It was thanks to the success of the Park Drive Junior Skate Park that it was decided to complement this community fixture with a newer and larger Senior Skate Park which opened in 2014. Even after the Senior Skate Park was installed, the Park Drive Junior Skate Park continued to be well used. Junior boarders enjoyed practicing without fear of getting in the way of the more experienced boarders that were now using the Senior Skate Park.

The intention was to keep the two skate parks working in tandem. That was at least until it was decided that the Park Drive Junior Skate Park would make a great parking lot. Everyone understands the need for additional parking in the downtown area. The issue is that the Junior Skate Park should have simply been relocated before the parking lot was built. At least another site should have been chosen for it within Memorial Park before it was paved over and the equipment put into storage in the hope that one day a study would be completed and a new site chosen.  The time for studies was before the Junior Skate Park was removed and not after.

Supporters in the community want to have the Town fast track the relocation of the Junior Skate Park so the community will be able to use it this summer as part of Stouffville’s Canada 150 celebrations.

Please Council, fast track the relocation of the Park Drive Junior Skate Park to another site within Memorial Park as part of Stouffville’s Canada 150 celebrations this summer.
