Back in July 2016 I ‘called-in’ the decision of the Labour Cabinet to set up a council newspaper, funded by taxpayers. I warned them against doing this because it was not the time for novices to the newspaper industry to be launching a new print title and they would be breaking government guidelines by producing a monthly newspaper. These warnings were ignored.
Six months down the line and the newspaper is beset with problems – not every household receives it as was promised, those that do get it don’t want it, and it has been unable to attract any non-public sector advertisers to cover its costs. Phil Davies has been warned by Government Minister, Marcus Jones MP, that he’s breaking the Recommended Code of Practice for Local Authority Publicity which is tantamount to Labour playing fast and loose with Council Taxpayers money.
I think that now is the time for Labour Councillors in Wirral to scrap this expensive vanity project so the money can be better spent on removing the proposal to charge for car parking at Wirral’s Country Parks so they remain free for everyone to use and enjoy.
If you agree that this newspaper should be scrapped please sign this petition and share it with your friends.
