Fencing required to mitigate serious child safety concern at new playground

I visited the new Centenary Lakes Nature Play area recently. This is a fabulous facility for locals and visiting children and the team that brought this together are to be congratulated for their imagination and educational spirit.

There are significant safety concerns relating to the proximity of this playground to a main road, the lagoon and the lack of fencing around the perimeter. Specifically, the current design (including the terrain which prevents clear view of children from one end to the other) of this playground and absence of fencing poses a drowning risk. Additionally, it is far too easy for a child to stray unseen onto the busy Greenslopes Street.  The potential for what could go wrong in a moment is alarming.

This concern has been noted by many Parents and care providers visiting this area. A simple fence could easily avoid catastrophic consequence.
