The residents in Bophelong, Bonanne and the CW areas of Vanderbijlpark have come to expect electrical failures as a weekly incident, often for days at a time.  This is because of inadequate infrastructure in the Substation at Curie Boulevard.  Ever since the earlier incident where the Substation sustained severe damage during a fire, a smaller transformer was installed to get the system up and running sooner.  This intervention should never have been seen as a permanent measure, and this petition is to demonstrate the need for a long term, viable solution for the residents.  ELM is acting irresponsibly by not planning to have a proper electrical infrastructure in place.  Apart from the weekly electrical failures, there are also numerous incidents of low voltage and electricity interruptions to the water reservoirs, negatively impacting on the critical water supply to the town.  If the technicians are always busy in these affected areas, the rest of the town suffers as well as nobody is available to cover the other issues.
