Please reopen debate on Fanshawe College's proposal for the Kingsmill's building, and hold a new vote on it.

As you may know from reading the London Free Press and watching local television news, London City Council is currently not willing to provide Fanshawe College with an additional $10 million to help finance the purchase and expansion of the Kingsmill's store on Dundas Street. Council rejected the proposal in a tie vote.
This petition asks London City Council to resume debate on Fanshawe's proposal for the Kingsmill's building, and to revote on the proposal. London has suffered enormously since 2008, and Fanshawe's expansion in London's core would help the city's economy and make the community more liveable. It would also ensure that a crucial heritage property - the Kingsmill's building - would continue to be a London landmark.
Other cities that have supported the creation of college and university campuses in their core areas - such as Wilfred Laurier University in downtown Brantford and Connestoga College in downtown Cambridge - have seen their communities become more vibrant. London would surely experience the same benefit. The provincial government has already promised tens of millions of dollars in funding to help Fanshawe repurpose the Kingsmill's building, and it is time for city council to also invest in the proposal. Please add your name to this petition if you support Fanshawe College's plan for the Kingsmill's building.
