Reverse the £100,000 Pay Rise the Basildon Conservative Councillors Awarded Themselves

On Thursday 24th May 2018, the new Conservative Administration on Basildon Council awarded themselves a £100,000 payrise. This means taxpayers will have to find an extra £75,000 in this financial year to pay for the salaries of their new Tory Councillors.

By increasing the number of Committees from 4 to 10, the Conservative Councillors will be paying themselves over £2,000 per meeting they Chair and £1,000 an hour.

At time when Basildon Council is having to make really hard decisions, increase council tax and cut services our communities rely on, it isn’t right for the new Conservative Administration to award themselves £100,000 extra of taxpayer money.

We are calling on the new Leader of Basildon Council, Cllr Andrew Baggott, to reverse this disastrous decision and commit to reducing the Councillors allowances by £100,000 immediately.
