Why this petition matters

Started by Alise Kuzmina

Almost every student has had experienced anxiety. However, when the feeling of intense fear and distress become overwhelming and prevent us from doing everyday activities and getting sufficient education.

We want more people to talk about mental health in schools, so students can learn and understand what is going on with their mental health, feel support and let students know that they are not alone.

THE FACTS

  • According to the CDC (center for disease control and prevention) suicide is the second leading cause of death in the Gen Z community.
  • In 2021 Latvian suicide number was the third in the EU.
  • One-half of all chronic mental illnesses begin by the age of 14; three - quarter by the age of 24.
  • Only 16% of all children receive mental health assistance in school.

Our goal is to make mental health education for students in schools, by providing resources, tips on how to cope, support, and most importantly, help students achieve mental stability.

To introduce lessons for mental well-being professionals may come once or twice a month to talk about an issue. Also, offer students tests to evaluate their mental state and provide necessary support and help.
