Immediately admit Ukraine as the 28th EU member state under a special procedure
We, European civil society,
Demand the European Council and the European Commission to immediately admit Ukraine as the 28th EU member state under a special procedure upon Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky's official EU membership application on 28 February 2022. This notion has been supported by nine EU member states, civil society, and EU citizens.
In the face of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the bravery Ukrainians have shown since 2013 in their determination to join the European Community, we urge all EU institutions and governments to facilitate the prompt integration of Ukraine into the EU family.
Due to the aforementioned Russian invasion and Ukraine’s proven fight for the values of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and Europe as a whole, in our understanding, Ukraine deserves access to the benefits of EU membership.
We are convinced that the free movement of people between the EU and Ukraine will ensure the aversion of the migration crisis which is unfolding. The people of Ukraine deserve to freely obtain a job and education in Europe without friction and time limits.
The free movement of goods, services, and capital will avert the humanitarian crisis that is already taking place and may significantly worsen.
In conclusion, a swift accession of Ukraine into the EU will provide Ukraine and its people with the necessary tools and funds to fight off the Russian invasion and ensure the safety of the citizens who unequivocally belong to the European Community.
